Phantom Echoes
PHANTOM ECHOES is the current Combined Space Operations (CSpO) 5-Eyes (FVEYs) Space Situational Awareness (SSA) experiment, focusing on Geostationary (GEO) Rendezvous & Proximity Operations (RPO). The campaign is being performed under the ISTAR group within The Technical Cooperation Program (TTCP) MOU, involving Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, and aligns with the priority research areas that were defined by each nation in 2018.
The research requirements which will be addressed by the PHANTOM ECHOES experiment are:
- What size of catalogue in deep space (particularly GTO/ HEO) can be effectively handled using non-traditional EO assets?
- Identify methods to enable cataloguing of interacting space objects, i.e. rendezvous/ separating/ interacting objects
- Identify methods to support catalogue maintenance against manoeuvring/high drag objects on orbit
Members of SSEL on the project are responsible for making the algorithms used by each FVEYs nation available to all members of the Phantom Echoes team. This involves dockerizing various software tools and integrating them with UA's CyVerse cyberinfrastructure platform for space situational awareness (VerSSA).
